How do I book?

As we get the studio off the ground, we are taking bookings over email. We will send an invoice to paid prior to securing your booking.

Why the two-hour minimum?

The time you book includes setup and cleanup time. Sessions are often booked back-to-back, and everyone should have enough time for their session without feeling rushed or being delayed by the previous renter loading out.

What is The Studio at Velvet Mill used for?

The Studio at Velvet Mill can be used for a wide range of creative activities ranging from photo and video shoots of all kinds including portrait and branding sessions, to product photography, podcasting, and even classes, meetings, and events for up to 100 people. The Studio at Velvet Mill and the Velvet Mill as a whole are safe spaces for people from all backgrounds, ethnicities, races, sexuality, and genders, abilities, ages, and sizes.

What should I bring?

The Studio at Velvet Mill includes a thoughtful, curated complement of equipment and furnishings including three 9-foot-wide, wall-mounted backdrops, professional lighting with stands and sandbags, a makeup and hair station, vintage couch, loveseat, and chair, and stools.

If you opt for makeup and/or hairstyling services, those items will be provided by the artist. 

If there are any other needs you have for your session not noted here, you’ll need to bring them.

Where do I park?

The Studio at Velvet Mill is located at 22 Bayview Avenue, Stonington, CT 06378. The closest entrance to The Studio at Velvet Mill is through the black double doors at the corner of Bayview and Meadow Avenues. The closest parking is on Meadow Avenue, at the sculpture park—keep driving past the main parking for the Velvet Mill, continue to the end of Bayview Ave, and turn left onto Meadow Ave to park.

How do I find The Studio at Velvet Mill?

The closest entrance to The Studio at Velvet Mill is through the black double doors at the corner of Bayview and Meadow Avenues. Once you enter, continue down the hallway, and the studio is the third door on the left (#60) with a diagonal entrance.

How do I get inside?

You will receive an email confirmation with a door code.


Does The Studio at Velvet Mill allow pets?

Dogs are welcome in The Studio at Velvet Mill and the Velvet Mill as a whole, so long as they are leashed and/or in a crate when in shared spaces. If there are damages in The Studio at Velvet Mill or the Velvet Mill caused by your pet, you will be held responsible. The Studio at Velvet Mill assumes no liability for your pet and the actions of your pet while visiting the studio. Damage or cleaning fees will be assessed at the discretion of The Studio at Velvet Mill.

Can I smoke in The Studio at Velvet Mill?

No, absolutely not. The Studio at Velvet Mill is located in a 135-year-old old building, in which many businesses operate. Smoking is also prohibited by the terms of our lease with the Velvet Mill. We are a professional, clean, and safe studio for everyone including families, children, and pets.

Where do I put my garbage?

We provide a trash can, but please refrain from leaving stinky or sticky items such as diapers, food, and drinks in our garbage.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?

You may reschedule your session through the booking link sent in your confirmation email up to 48 hours in advance of your booking date. If you do not reschedule before 48 hours of your booking date, you forfeit payment and must schedule a new session. This is because when you cancel, you are taking time away from others’ ability to use the studio. If you fail to show up for your booked session, you forfeit payment. No refunds are permitted.

Can I photograph minors?

Models under age 18 must have a parent or guardian present with them at all times.

What if I arrive early?

Please do not enter the studio prior to the start of your booking time. Others may be using the studio and we want to respect their privacy.
